Void Presents: Scan 7 – “I AM FROM DETROIT”

SCAN 7 (Underground Resistance/Tresor/430 West)

SATURDAY MARCH 19 @ THE SHELTER, 5 YONG FU LU, NEAR FUXING LU – 50 RMB ON THE DOOR.

Void presents the dark and seductive mistique of Detroit Techno kings Scan 7 – powerful dance-inducing grooves in your face, straight from the “D”.

Make no mistake, this is the real techno business. And they don’t come more faceless and mysterious than Scan-7. A collective of techno artists led by enigmatic Detroit producer Lou “Trackmasta” Robinson, Scan-7 are closely related to tha…t other shadowy Detroit Techno institution, Underground Resistance.

Scan 7 have been active since the early 90s. They rose to prominence with the seminal 12 “Black moon rising” on Underground Resistance’s label, which sent shockwaves around the house and techno world. UR head honcho Mad Mike Banks knew a winner when he heard one – etheral, spooky, but melanchony, the EP put Scan 7 on the map. Also on the 12 was another track which would become something of an anthem at Void – “System Work”.

A key role in the pivotal Detroit-Berlin Techno Alliance was next for Scan 7 – two full-length albums, “Dark Territory” and “Resurfaced” were released on the world’s most famous techno label, TRESOR, to help cement this most important musical axis alongside other techno luminaries such as Jeff Mills, Maurizio and Juan Atkins.

Along with Detroit electro act Positronix, Lou Robinson formed the label Cratesavers Musik to showcase their own material.

The sounds, feeling and emotions of life in urban Detroit manifests itself in Scan 7′s storied discography. Bleak yet futuristic, sparse yet dense, its an endlessly deep sound waiting to engulf and consume both all-night dancers or stay-at-home listeners.
